Story
It all began in 2010, when our team convinced Marian into cooperation with the Slovak Radio Symphony Orchestra and the Slovak Television, to perform parts of his work that he kept secret for many years, even from his fans, in a vault. He performed all those opuses as a soloist, accompanied by the Slovak Radio Symphony Orchestra, but due to the circumstances, he was unable to satisfy all who cared, who didn’t get a chance to enjoy that event. Simply put, two concerts of his mysterious works could not satisfy those, who loved Marian. In addition to his art-rock works, which he loved to passionately perform, usually accompanied by the Collegium Musicum, Marian was an author who aspires to be “a classic composer” of contemporary music of the 20th century.
Marian was a composer who loved symphonic music, loved the Hammond, and created unique arrangements. It was painful when Marian went to the musical heaven and his works, which were so intimate to him, remained, without him to perform it. It was clear to us that no one else could once again present his greatest hits in symphonic arrangement, and at the same time works so little known, in such a unique way as he could himself.
Sadly, Marian left us on August 2017. We premiered an event that Marian considered one of his top presentations of himself as a composer and performer on Hammond organ.
“Marián Varga In Memoriam” was a wonderful tribute concert to Marián Varga, he could not attend himself. In a way, it was also a tribute to the co-founder of “Collegium Musicum” - Fedor Frešo, bass guitarist, at his last public performance with that ensemble. At the time, Fedor Frešo could not imagine that somebody could replace Marián Varga to play the Hammond organ. When Marián Varga left us, Fedor announced disbandment of “Collegium Musicum”. During rehearsals of the live concert he changed his mind, as Bernardetta Šuňavská revived Marián Varga's unforgettable pieces in her brilliant interpretation. He saw a hope and a way to resurrect “Collegium Musicum.” Shortly afterwards, Fedor followed Marián to musical heaven. The beauty that remained in our memory of Marián and the faith in a future of “Collegium Musicum” is preserved only in this unique project, which has ambition to find its own path to you and to all fans who loved Marián Varga as a composer and as a member of the iconic “Collegium Musicum.” However, it will be possible only with your support. Our ambition
MARIÁN VARGA IN MEMORIAM (Live) is a vinyl edition of 11 songs recorded at the memorial event “Marián Varga in Memoriam” with the Symphony Orchestra held on January 28, 2018 in the Great Concert Studio of Slovak Radio in Bratislava. The works were performed under the baton of prominent Slovak conductor Adrián Kokoš interpreted by the Symphony Orchestra, the Children's Choir of Slovak Radio, the band Collegium Musicum, and soloists Bernardetta Šuňavská (Hammond and concert organ), Fero Griglák (guitar), Fedor Frešo (bass) Martin Valihora (drums), Pavol Hammel (vocals), Andrea Zimányiová (vocals), Michal Varga (vocals), Magdaléna Izakovičová (cello), Milan Hradil (keyboards), Martina Pepuchová (flute) and others.
The project brings an insight and eternal reminder of the works of Marián Varga, one of the most prominent Slovak music artists of the 21st century.
About us
La Plata Production supports contemporary art, creates platform for artists, performers and for implementation of collaborative projects. Produces genre-oriented and multimedia projects, cultural events and festivals for young artists and performers. It develops activities in the field of cultural heritage preservation and implements projects aimed at preserving cultural heritage.
La Plata also supports activities of internationally recognized studio - Experimental Studio Bratislava and through the sonicArt project disseminates its historical legacy and implements new projects in the field of experimental work.
