How it all started
It all began eight years ago. Back then, one skilful blind student at Masaryk university dreamt to play football as his peers did. And so we began trying to fulfil his dream. About a year after, two teams were formed in the Czech Republic: one in Brno, the other in Prague. And one year after that these already competed in the Czech national league.
Both lack of chances to play and the passion to ever improve our game forced both the teams to participate in foreign tournaments. The idea to organize the first Czech tournament was born. Along with the wish to thank those teams that have influenced us in our beginnings and that have been inviting us to their own tournaments.
Everything clicked and there was no stopping the rolling stone. So today we are looking forward to the tournament’s fifth year.
What is our aim?
Bučovice Blind Football Cup is not just your regular sporting event. Entirely unique in its vibe; it is bound to captivate even the most sworn enemies of football. Our aim, apart from improving our gameplay, is to promote this amazing Paralympic sport in our country, as well as to establish cooperation between different teams. And it is our utmost ideal to organize a tournament with an unforgettable vibe full of fascinating sport performances to be remembered long after and to show the public what the blind and the visually impaired are capable of.
Details
Bučovice Blind Football Cup is the first international blind football tournament in the Czech Republic. For the fifth time in a row it will host the best teams from all over Europe, as well as the indomitable football masters of ICB-Bahia from Brazil, the home team to several Paralympic champions. Given a little touch of luck, we will be able to observe yet another overseas team apart from the Brazilians; all the way from Colombia.
The ball rattles, coaches are shouting instructions, players communicate and are able to lead the ball, kick-off and shoot to score with such a certainty that even we, the sighted, are left to stare in awe.
The increasing interest from the public along with the media coverage are a sign that once again this will be an astonishing event to be remembered!
Throughout its history the BBFC has earned itself the title of the best club-based tournament, so we provide the viewers all over the world to observe the matches via online streaming along with audio-description in English.
Once more we can look forward to the best European referees which also participated in the Rio Paralympics. And once more we can enjoy the unforgettable atmosphere of the tournament.
… and that’s not all
Here is a remarkable proof of how extraordinary this sport really is. Watch the following short funny video. In Bučovice, you will have a chance to see him in person; the best player in the world, Jefinho: https://www.facebook.com/GillesSaintLouis/videos/1746059782320934/.
Who are we?
We are a team of visually impaired football players and their coaches which was formed in September of 2008 at Masaryk university as the first team in Czechia. We are threefold Czech champions and apart from organizing this tournament we are involved in raising the public awareness about this sport, both nationally and internationally. We also organize demonstrative public seminars and we have created a methodology handbook to this sport. And the result of all our efforts shows in a shelf full of trophies from many different foreign tournaments.
Why are we doing this?
We fell in love with blind football and the Bučovice tournament became our passion. The meaningfulness in carrying on with the tournament is evident from the yearly touching feedback from all participants and the immense effort of teams from all around the world to participate in the tournament. An event of this scale has a budget of about EUR 18,500, even though vast majority of the people involved in organizing the tournament do so in their free time and free of charge.
Each year we try to cover at least a portion of these costs via the hithit.com crowdfunding site, while also spreading the awareness about this sport into new segments of the public. Judging by the success of our fundraising campaigns on this portal in the past years, we believe we have managed this as well.
We would be most thankful for your support and contributions also this year. Do not leave us hanging!
Thank you!
We have added a new reward! Czech indie-pop band Holden has decided to support us and offered us = you several CDs with their latest album. Check out the rewards, which and how many ;-) We really appreciate this support!
