A Maze in TchaiovnaA Maze in Tchaiovna is an energetic teahouse supporting live music & arts. With the help of our lively community we have moved to our new, spacious location near Hradčanská with the opportunity to develop into something truly AMAZING. Over the last year we have hosted a variety of artists, musicians and theatre performances all in the corner of our front room. We want to offer a professional stage for all the arts to be provided for free to up and coming artists. Our first phase of remaking the teahouse is nearly complete but we still have a long way to go. To make this theatre space into a professional venue we need sound insulation on the walls, windows & ceiling, curtains to black out the room, to provide a basic lighting system, a projector for films, talks and theatre and a sound system with recording ability in order that we can record artists and provide them with a live album immediately. With your help we will transform this beautiful space into a lively centre for creativity.Divadlo.....

So what’s needed?

The development of the New Teahouse has been broken down into 3 parts;

Phase 1 - Teahouse Remade. in progress; Phase 2 - Centre Stage. requires funding; Phase 3 – Hidden doors, ongoing

At our new location, we have the opportunity to develop the theatre room into a great facility for showcasing and encouraging participation in all the expressive arts; exhibitions, music, film, dance, discussion and theatre. It will support emerging and established talents and give a space to those who wish to try something new. We are now looking to cover the costs of the next development phase, Phase 2; Centre Stage. To achieve our aim in transforming our Muchova 4 base into a quality venue providing a free platform to artists of all kinds, we are looking to raise €13000 (350,000 CZK).

Our front room during reconstruction...The story so far....

In June 2014 “A Maze in Tchaiovna” sprang to life as a unique teahouse specialising in a cosy living-room atmosphere with a vast range of drinks to choose from. Based in the Czech Republic, it seemed only logical to bring a selection of tea and beer together, Thus moulding together the two atmospheres of a healthy, centred teahouse and sociable, high-energy bar. Over the year, it has developed into a vibrant community for young and older, where new friendships can a creative platform for development. But we got too big for our boots! After our first successful year of operation, the number of visitors to the Tchaiovna out grew our old premises in Letná.

During the hot summer months, troops of volunteers from the Tchaiovna Community haveOur front room after reconstruction... renovated the new space at Muchova 4 - laying new wooden floors, varnishing, painting, cleaning and generally doing everything to create the funkiest and most colourful experience for our visitors. We have a marvellous team of enthusiastic volunteers who have transformed Muchova 4 into the new “A Maze in Tchaiovna”. Now Phase 1 –Teahouse Remade, is nearly complete.

We recognize that not all those that wish to support “A Maze in Tchaiovna” are as lucky as those summer volunteers to be in the local vicinity with time to spare. So this Campaign has been launched so that people of good will, from near and far, can have a stake in the continuing success of our new Tchaiovna. This will ensure that the truly amazing range of creative activities continues to enrich and expand the experiences of our visitors in the Tchaiovna.

Our new base is at an excellent location, at Muchova 4 near Hradčanská Metro, in the leafy area of Prague 6. Twice the size, the new location is perfect with a court yard that catches the sun, a labyrinth of corridors leading to smaller rooms and 2 large rooms for a livingroom atmosphere. With this new space, we look forward to developing a garden, the maze concept with a series of subterfuge entrances, a children’s area, a craft corner, but above all and the reason for crowd funding, the theatre.

Surrounded by books, musical instruments and board games, the teahouse provides a space for different social gatherings such as chess club, Czech and English lessons, reading groups and crafts. With the monthly cultural programme, we’ve also become known for serving up a wide variety of cultural events in both Czech and English; theatre, comedy, discussions known as “Tea Talks”, live music, poetry nights, art exhibitions, film and workshops. – all available for free on an optional donations basis. Here, Prague locals and visitors from all over the world sit and chat freely. It’s rather like a relaxed festival, tea shop, pub, café and gallery all rolled into one.

Humbly, it is a super friendly establishment, serving great teas loose from all over the world, the best variety of Masala Yogi Chai in town and prize-winning micro-brewery beers.

In our modern world we find it harder and harder to connect to the people around us. Our aim is to provide a relaxed space where our guests can share experiences and learning something from each other taking these connections with them, with the addition of the crowd funding we can provide professional facilities for up and coming musicians, lecturers with the longer goal of being able to record and video all productions.

Decoding our name....

 “A Maze in” pronounced “Amazing” is our evolving concept, and guidelines for developing the ever-changing interior. We want customers to explore their surroundings! Secret rooms such as our popular Narnia Room are waiting to be explored.

“Tchaiovna” in turn comes from “Čajovna”, Czech for teahouse, but spelt in the English way like our twin sister “Tchai-Ovna” in Glasgow, the only Bomhemian-style teahouse in Scotland.
