What technology will be used to create the virtual museum?
It will primarily consist of interconnecting of programs such as Panorama Viewer and Unity Web Player (e.g. Unity 5, HTML 5, CS3, Three.js, 123D). This visualization will allow for a complete tour of the labour camp reconstructed to its original state. It will be possible to view found objects and documents in 3D format, into which larger objects will also be converted (e.g. prison bunk beds). We would also like to use new technologies that enable complete 3D photographic passage through the camp. We are now basically working with individual panoramic views, while our goal is a 100% virtual tour that combines full 3D visualization with photographic reality (e.g. Matterport technology).
What will the Vodafone Foundation support amount to if we are unable to collect the full target amount?
In such a case we will not receive the contribution from the Vodafone Foundation. It’s hop or trop – all or nothing.
Why are you asking for so much money? Wouldn’t less be enough?
We really want to build the virtual museum properly, and for that we require the long-term work of several top programmers, animators and other experts. The technology that is required for thorough mapping and 3D scanning of objects and items is also very expensive, and it is also going to cost money to make another trip to the abandoned camps. But the results are really going to be worth it!
