THANK YOU! Thanks to all of you who supported our project, we can finish our film now! This is an amazing news and we are grateful for your incredible support that enabled us to reach our first goal before the middle of the campaign! We have another peak to reach now! Our next goal is to get to 600.000 CZK in order to organise a special distribution of the film in unusual places, accompanied in the Czech Republic by the authors or protagonists from the film! The experience from the screening will be more intense for the audience than a single visit of a cinema. We will also manage to widen our distribution worldwide because Adam is beloved by people also outside the Czech Republic who are interested in his story. Support us so that people all around the world can watch the film about the best Czech climber!
We are preparing an extra video for all supporters we will send you to thank you all.
Adam was a child prodigy who amazed the world with his performances from an early age. From a taciturn introvert, he became a global sports star, and his desire to climb turned into his mission to always win. Adam began to fully prepare for a new challenge: the 2021 Summer Olympics in Tokyo. Sport climbing was an Olympic discipline for the first time, and everyone expected Adam to win the gold...
Through Adam's story, the film also traces the transformation of sport climbing and sport in general, the influence of commercial pressures, the media, and the audience longing for the show that climbing competitions are turning into. In contrast to the solitude that accompanies Adam's daily training and the beautiful nature that surrounds him as he climbs on the rocks, towards the end of the film we find ourselves at the biggest sporting event ever, the Summer Olympics. Here the motto "it's not important to win, but to participate" has long since been replaced by a new one: "winner takes all".
Climbing is a passion and a desire; Adam Ondra pushed the limits where it seemed to be beyond human possibilities. He has sacrificed literally everything for climbing and now a new challenge awaits him with increasing urgency - family life. The film that goes beyond the usual boundaries of sports documentaries encourages reflection and manages to reach a wide audience in the Czech Republic and abroad with its strong human story. Adam's story is admirable, as is that of his wife Iva. What is it like to live alongside a sports celebrity and what place does Iva occupy in Adam's life?
We decided to make a film that would show Adam from a different point of view than the climbing one and thus offer a different perspective of the climbing community or people who follow Adam Ondra. The result is an intimate portrait of the sport climbing star, but also a film about the people around him.
I'm Alice Tabery, the film's producer, and a long-time admirer of Adam Ondra.
The Olympics in Tokyo, which were supposed to be a milestone of our filming, were postponed by a year due to a global pandemic and we had to suspend our filming for a few months and then delay its completion by a year. As a result, we have more footage and have spent one more year with Adam. Unfortunately, this has made the film more expensive. Also, our film crew was not able to fly to Tokyo for the shooting because of the restrictions, and now we have to pay a large amount of money for the shots from the Olympics. We would like to use the funds raised from the crowdfunding campaign to professionally complete the film for its release in cinemas, international film festivals and in a special event distribution in unusual places.
Climbing achievements by Adam Ondra are often recorded, either in the form of short videos, interviews, or climbing documentaries. However, we decided to make a film that would show Adam from a different perspective, a more personal one. Therefore, we decided to start to shoot this film three years ago. The directors Jan Šimánek and Petr Záruba accompanied Adam on important events: climbing competitions, outdoor rock climbing, training, and the demanding preparations for the Olympics. At the same time, they filmed Adam in his home environment, during his time together with his parents and especially with his girlfriend Iva. Iva became not only Adam's wife during the filming, but also a very important character in our film. She is a great support to Adam, even if her role is not always easy.
We want to tell a story of obsession, discipline, and tremendous effort behind Adam's climbing successes; an admirable and inspiring story, and to show what the real prize of success is.
