How it all started
Secret Session band was founded approximately five years ago as a dream project of our singer and guitarist Pa(b)lo Gajdoš. Alongside intensive playing in all-metal band Sunity, he was always wondering what it’d be like to play colorful rock music in the style similar to bands from 60’s and 70’s. After moving to the capital, we have written loads of various songs that we would like to record and bring them to people in the form of our debut album. Because we consider the whole process of music making rather sublime, we’re striving to do our best in every single step of this way. Starting off with finding the right melodies, arrangements, lyrics and sounds, we have found ourselves at the entrance to the new world of the recorded sound. For the best result possible, which we believe our music is worthy of, recording ought to take place in a professional studio under the supervision of experienced sound engineers and should be carefully mixed with a great emphasis on mastering. Hopefully, once it’s done the world will get an absolutely unique record. Therefore we invite you to become a part of this exciting story.
What is our goal?
Our goal is to raise enough money to cover the major cost related to a birth of the album. Namely financing the recording studio, complex postproduction process and the price of publishing physical copy of the CD with a beautiful booklet and the fantastic sound.
Details
Secret Session band originated in Zvolen, though its home is now in Bratislava. Together we are creating music called “Pestrock”. It is a contagious anachronistic musical blend combining rock, psychedelia, prog-rock and blues. Imagine all of the bands from Woodstock in one, filter it through our diverse personalities and you are halfway there. We honor dynamics, contrasts, improvisation, flamboyance and even minimalism. Because music is full-time hobby for some of us, we are a lot more often in touch with the world of Muses, where we feel more at home, rather than in the world of finance. On the other hand, music producers, recording studios, sound engineers and record labels are (also) understandably connected to the financial industry. This is why our effort needs a little bit of an outside help from you; our fans and supporters, people who value the music, free art as such, the creativity or simply, a good intention. For a better understanding, here is an overview of the whole process expenditure:
Professional recording studio: €300 / day (we need 6 days) = €1800
Mixing of the record: €200 / song (we want to record 8 longer songs) = €1600
Mastering of the record: €50 / song = €400
Rewards for our contributors: approx. €800
Total: €4600
Who are we?
Secret Session is formed of five different personages that are connected through the passion for the creative rock music and an authentic art.
The band leader, Pa(b)lo Gajdos, is a music lover, who sells the music records while completing his PhD at the Aesthetics department at the Comenius University in Bratislava. He also teaches the subject Poetics of the rock music under the leadership of a recognized Slovak music composer Vladimir Godar.
Our drummer, Matej Salko, is searching for the colour harmony not only in music, but in film, too. In addition to playing with the band, he has dedicated his time to the television and film industry. There he collaborates with legendary Czechoslovakian cameramen in the role of a colorist, deciding on the look of restored movie classics as well as some new television production.
Our lead guitar player, Dano Kery, studies classical guitar at JAMU (Janáček Academy of Music and Performing Arts) in Brno. He had even been on the internship at Vienna’s Universität für Musik und darstellende Kunst. Alongside his studies, he keeps himself occupied by giving guitar lessons, concentrating on different styles ranging from classical to rock music or improvisation.
In charge of bass tones is Belinda Rasnerova, who as a 17 year old was already singing and playing in Definitivum band alongside Marcel Danis, the bass player of fabulous Dezo Ursiny at the time. She studied animation at high school and generally keeps close to the visual arts.
Iva Mackova has an outstanding position in our band where she takes care (not only) of our visual identity. With a little help of our retro overhead projector, some paints, few oils, the alcohols and another secret liquids, she brings our songs into a new dimension through her abstract projection at the concerts. Besides teaching at the department of Puppetry of the Academy of Performing Arts in Bratislava, she collaborates with many professional theaters all around Slovakia as a scenographer.
Why are we doing this?
Music is both self-expression and spiritual practice for us and we wouldn’t want for it to be limited by any financial issues. We feel responsible towards the music and believe in exceptionality of our mission, which we would like to do to the fullest. Since we refuse to do any artistic compromises, it is more than logical for us to connect with people to whom is the independent music and art as such, equally important. Without people of this kind, none of us would start playing music, nor would the band ever be born. We are convinced that our debut album is worthy of this approach and this is why we have decided to engage our fans in its birth directly, through the collection.
