I like the backpack very much but its price seems rather high to me. Why?
First of all, we should understand that the design of this backpack is primarily based on leather and canvas. The price of these natural materials is significantly higher in comparison with synthetic materials. All the quilted leather parts have partially embedded seams, which decreases the possibility of abrasion and on the other hand increases the resistance and tenacity of the seams. The backpack is handmade from beginning to end in my own little workshop near Prague; so it is not an industrial production from the East. All the parts of the backpack apart from the two hidden side pockets are provided with lining, which makes the cut and production process length substantially more demanding.
What is the difference between Bandit and Bandit field version?
Actually it’s the same backpack. However compared to the classic Bandit model, this version is equipped with prolonged fastening straps overlapping the top lid. This way the straps create a space where you can fasten a picnic blanket, sweatshirt or other necessities.
Where can I find more detailed specifications about rewards?
You can visit our website www.clasppingoods.com where you will learn all the specifications including more detailed images.
Will be possible to view rewards somewhere in real?
Yes, it will... we will sell backpacks on summer Dyzajnmarket in Prague on 28–29th May. You are welcome!
I would choose Rover belt as a reward, how I can find my right size?
If you don't see your size in belts sizing chart in detailed description or on our website, please wear your pants at their normal level on your waist and measure the length around the waistband. We will make the belt just in your size. Just note your waist size at notification form when you choose your reward.
Is the backpack waterproof?
In case of ordinary use of the backpack in the city and countryside environments – not talking about extreme conditions of an all-day or half-day rain – the backpack is very damp-proof.
CLASP'PIN Bandit is made of “duck canvas” – densely woven canvas of higher grammage (470 g/m2). This canvas is very abrasion resistant and damp-proof but it is not waterproof. However, the material I use has a special hydrophobic finish (impregnation) which increases the damp-proof quality. During continuous use and wearing it is nevertheless sometimes (sufficient frequency is roughly once a year – depending on the intensity of the mechanical abrasion) necessary to apply additional impregnation using a spray designated for a combination of textile and leather materials.
The above mentioned nylon lining with the special coating increases damp resistance of the contents; however, the seams are not treated with a damp-proof finish.
Is the backpack also suitable for women?
Bandit has been designed as a unisex backpack; nevertheless, what matters is the personal taste, preferences and mainly the type of the female body build. According to my own experience, for women shorter than 170 cm with rather a narrow back it is not quite the best choice. Taller women (175 cm and more) can wear the backpack without any worries. But as I said, everything is a question of the personal taste.
What about Clasp'pin workshop?
All you need is only to make an appointment. All necessary materials and tools are included as well as a good cup of coffee. You will need just a bit of skill and good mind.
Do the materials used in the production come from the Czech Republic?
Yes, most materials (canvas, leather) have been purchased from Czech textile producers and tanneries. The colour range is unfortunately very limited and so leather of certain shades is ordered in Tuscany. At the present time, I am discussing a possibility of individual leather production with a domestic tannery. The backpack lining is made of nylon with PVC coating, which increases its damp-resistance. The origin of this material is unknown to me but I am not aware of any company in the Czech Republic that would be engaged in its production.
Are you planning to extend your offer of products?
Yes; as for backpacks, we are intending to produce three more models, out of which one specially designated for women. This backpack will have priority over the other two models, as well as a bag also intended mainly for women for carrying odds and ends around. If I manage to launch this project successfully, all the development process of other products will be sped up.
What exactly do you intend to use the raised funds?
The priorities are established as follows:
1) Purchase of my own hydraulic cutting press, which enables cutting out any shapes from leather and other materials using cut-out knives. This technique maximizes accuracy and increases production process efficiency.
2) All the sewing machines that I have been using so far come from the period of 1950-1970 and I was personally involved in their introduction. Although they are a matter of the heart for me, in the frame of increasing production efficiency I feel essential to purchase a more modern industrial sewing machine with a thread cutting device, automatic fastening off and presser foot stroke.
3) The remaining funds will be used to purchase minor equipment for my workshop as well as other materials (leather and canvas).
