Our goal is to get enough shots and information from the banana plantations so we can make you think twice the next time you buy your bananas. Afterwards, an online document in 10 languages will be created from the material of Costa Rica and Panama.

So how it all began?
Some of us have known each other for quite a long time since working for Fair trade, but the whole group-of-four met at this year’s marathon for the first time. We ran the marathon dressed in banana costumes and came to a conclusion that we’re a fairly good crew and there are a lot more things we can do for the bananas. And so we’re gonna do it! What is our goal? Our goal is to get enough shots, testimonies and information from the banana plantations so that we can get you to think twice the next time you buy your bananas, same as a ton of other different products. We’ll try to get to one of those ‘’common’’ plantations – those with no certification. We’ll talk to the people who work there and live in the closest surroundings. We’ll also check out the Fair trade facility, for this is in our opinion the best banana place there is. The two countries we will focus on are the ones on the top of the export ladder – Costa Rica and Panama.
This trip isn’t the end of our project, though, more like the exact opposite. The material will be transformed into an interactive document, a tool used for example by The Guardian or Al Jazeera. It is a microsite which uses different sorts of content (such as photos, animations, info graphic, video, etc.) to tell a story of a particular event. And ours will be about bananas. It will be available for anyone to read and by anyone we mean like really whoever pleases to; the site will be translated to at least 10 languages. This is possible thanks to the European commission, who partially funded this project, and the Ekumenical academy, the main coordinator of the decent working conditions campaign. We also have partners in over 20 countries.
…something extra
Every banana’s different. Have you already had yours today?
Four people with the thought of bringing up to light some common misconceptions we have about the things we buy and to point out that not all of the food origin stories are entirely fair. There is a big change you’d think a bit more the next time before shopping, if you knew these stories. ‘’To buy or not to be’’ is most certainly not our motto. So what about our crew? Varied like the scale of existing bananas: Bara is an expert on tropical fruits, Standa is our campaign guru, Kuba knows how to handle a camera or a drone and Pavla wants fair bananas in every Czech shop. We all will be so pleased to meet you for some of the rewards.
We care about people and we want every single one of them to receive a proper salary and live a dignified life. I mean, that is what everybody wants, right?
Farmers, plantations and meeting with union workers are agreed and we are happy to plan the details. And there are few new rewards. Maybe you can be interested in having banana shoes? Look at them and don't tell us you know better ones. They are going to travel with us.
MoreThanks to all of you who have already looked on our project and helped him into life. We are very grateful for that. Last week we have detailed meeting about our journey.
