???project.detail.fixedGoal??? All or nothing. Project finished on Jul 13, 2015 at 10:46.
How it started
I first met Techung roughly a year ago. Together with Potala, NGO, I organised his first concert in the Czech Republic. We were rewarded with enthusiastic response from the audience as well as sheer joy of the musicians themselves. Warm friendship has been established. With the desire to promote unique Tibetan culture, we have decided to invite Techung ang his band this year again.
What are our goals and objectives?
This time, Techung is bringing a brand new album of his original songs called “Tashi Sho” (Gratitude). Organising the concert, we intend to give Techung an opportunity to introduce his latest music.
Providing Techung with the opportunity to perform in Prague, we will also indirectly support his project of preservation of Tibetan music https://tibetanmusicpreservation.wordpress.com/
Last but not least, we intend to invite some Czech bands, who will also support Techung and his project.
With your help we would like to raise the means to cover the costs of renting the hall and equipment, the event’s promotion, and we would like to guarantee the band at least a minimum fee.
If we succed the concert will take place in Lucerna Music Bar on 18th October 2015.
Details
Techung is one of the most acclaimed contemporary performers of traditional Tibetan Music, as well as a composer and singer of original songs.
Born in exile, he studied in Dharamshala, India at the Tibetan Institute of Performing Arts (TIPA). After graduation he moved the USA where he formed his own band couple of years ago. He has repeatedly performed at beneficial concerts to promote Tibet in the USA and around the world. He also opened for teachings by His Holiness the Dalai Lama in the USA. His current band called Techung World Music include:
Techung – Vocals, dramnyen (traditional Tibetan lute), piwang (Tibetan fiddle), lingbu (Tibetan flute)
Michel Tyabji- Drums and percussion (born in India, lives in Los Angeles, where he runs a recording studio)
Rinzing Wangyal - Guitar (Tibetan, born in exile, now living in the USA)
Techung’s lifelong effort is to preserve Tibetan music tradition for future generations. Tibetan culture is endangered being the target of recent China’s policy attempts to annihilate it by systematic suppression. Traditional music and songs, once inseparable part of daily life, are now maintained only in rural areas. Techung has devoted himself to recording traditional songs which for generations were transmitted only orally.
Who are we
I am a person who cannot stand by. I like being involved in meaningful projects. I have acquainted with Tibetan music quite recently, and seeing it is quite unknown to the general public in Europe I now strive to promote it.
Since its establishment in 1998, Potala NGO has aimed at raising awareness about history, culture and ways of life of traditional communities, namely those in Tibet area. Over the years, they have gained experience in promoting Tibetan and Himalayan culture in the Czech Republic organising exhibitions, concerts, lectures and discussions (for professionals as well as the general public).
Why are we doing it?
Since last October we have been receiving enthusiastic responses to Techung’s concert and have been asked whether Techung will come to Prague again. Therefore we have decided to satisfy the voices and organise another concert with new programm.
